I had the pleasure of joining my friends Sean C and LV on their Grind Music Radio show last thursday. For those unfamiliar with the show it’s a live one hour weekly online Hip-Hop radio show and what makes it unique are the legendary guest producers whom they interview week after week. The list of guests so far includes luminaries such as DJ Premier, Alchemist, Just Blaze, Q-Tip and many more. The stories they uncover on this show are amazing, historic, hilarious and always insightful.

Last thursday’s special guest was DJ Scratch of EPMD. I was amazed and reminded of how influential this guy actually was to me as a young fan, not only for his beats but also for his scratching performances on record. I used to listen to the EPMD track “Funky Piano” over and over again to learn his cuts and then not too many years later it was his production on the first and subsequent Busta Rhymes solo albums that would inspire me to get creative on the beats. Scratch is one of Hip-Hops greatest producer’s, his catalogue is crazy. I’ll post that interview as soon as it’s available online.

Grind Music Radio is a must for any Hip-Hop fan and should be of particular interest to any aspiring (or established) producer/beatmaker.
